Rabi Dr. Odisho Malko Ashitha is widely regarded as one of the most prominent pillars and defenders of modern Assyrian language, literature, and cultural identity. As a dedicated scholar and fierce advocate for his people, his life's work centers on proving the unbroken continuity of the Assyrian nation from antiquity to the modern era.
Literary & Linguistic Scholarship: Dr. Odisho Malko is a prolific writer, poet, and translator. He has authored foundational books on Assyrian identity, including "Because You Are Assyrians" (لأنكم آشوريون), which meticulously traces Assyrian survival in their ancestral homelands. Notably, he also translated classic literature—such as Leo Tolstoy’s My Confession—into the Assyrian language.
Leadership in the Assyrian Writers League: Following the establishment of the Assyrian Writers League in Baghdad in 2006, Dr. Malko initially served as the deputy head under the late, renowned archaeologist Dr. Donny George Yousif. He later stepped up as the President of the League, organizing historic cultural seminars, poetry soirées, and linguistic lectures across Iraq and globally.
Global Advocacy and Academic Research: He has represented the Assyrian community at major international symposiums, delivering academic papers on the maintenance of Iraqi Assyrian architecture and the preservation of the modern Neo-Aramaic (Assyrian) language at universities in Damascus, Saint Petersburg, and across Europe and Australia.
Human Rights & Cultural Preservation: Beyond language, Dr. Malko has done critical research documenting the geopolitical struggles of his people, including comprehensive reports on the historical rights and fate of Assyrian villages in Northern Iraq following the establishment of the modern Iraqi state.
